Tango is a workflow intelligence platform that solves productivity problems by streamlining the documentation process. In 2020, Wing VC led the seed round for Tango, with participation from GSV Ventures, General Catalyst, Red Sea Ventures and Outsiders Fund.
According to a report from McKinsey Global Institute, employees spend nearly 20% of their workweek seeking help so they can perform specific tasks. That’s a big drain on productivity.
Tango co-founders Ken Babcock, Brian Schultz and Daniel Giovacchini are trying to solve this problem. Their team has built a Chrome extension that auto-captures workflows and creates step-by-step how-to guides in seconds. This tool helps companies onboard new hires, catch up on documentation and cut down on meetings and interruptions during the day.
In Tango’s seed round announcement, Wing partner Zachary DeWitt said:
"Tango is a transformative solution that automates a critical workflow process in a way we haven't seen before. The team behind Tango is world-class. Their diverse backgrounds and experience building scalable technology will help them succeed in a product-led growth environment. We are impressed with what Tango has built in less than a year to meet a huge market need, and we look forward to working with the company to create a new category: workflow intelligence."
Tango’s cofounders met in business school. When they started discussing potential startup ideas, they asked the question, “Why is it that on a given team, you have high performers, lower performers, new hires and people who are trying to get better at their jobs — and you can't easily copy the knowledge of the high performers and transfer that information to others?”
They realized that the biggest barrier to knowledge transfer was documentation — which can be time-consuming and difficult to keep up to date. They created Tango so high performers could build documentation into their workflows, making it easier to share knowledge.
Since their seed round in September 2020, Tango has continued developing their workflow intelligence platform. They have also:
● Become SOC 2 compliant, so they can ensure they are securely handling customer data.
● Launched Workspace features so users can share and collaborate on documentation.
● Created a Tango Desktop application to document processes in applications that aren’t web-based (like Excel, SAP, Oracle and more).
● Launched Guidance, featuring interactive, live, on-screen walkthroughs.
Tango is dedicated to creating a world where learning on the job is frictionless, knowledge sharing is easy and no one gets held up in their work because they don’t have the information they need. We’re proud to partner with a company that is democratizing data and empowering teams to be the best at what they do.
